Topic Maps are generally a method for creating associations and links between subject based resources on the web. The Topic Maps Paradigm was first fully described in the ISO/IEC 13250:2000 "Topic Maps" standard ISO13250, which was SGML and HyTime-based. Since then other, xml based technologies have surfaced that allow for the creation of Topic Maps. The most common technologies used to create Topic Maps on the web are the Resource description Framework (RDF) and the XML Topic Maps Standard (XTM)
